Why Socrates Hated Democracy

1 comment:

  1. Socrates was critical of democracy for several reasons. One key concern was that he believed democracy could lead to a "tyranny of the majority," where the desires of the majority could oppress or ignore the rights of minority groups. He also believed that the democratic system often led to the election of leaders who were not necessarily the most knowledgeable or virtuous, as the decision-making was based on popular vote rather than on expertise or merit. Additionally, Socrates felt that democracy could foster a culture of self-indulgence and materialism, where people prioritized their own desires over the common good.
